So here it is, my first ever blog post....drumroll please. Guess it is about time, considering I'm theoretically part of the tech-savvy generation, and I'm hoping to enter the publishing industry which is all-a-fluster because of the internet, the Kindle, and the iPhone. Well, voila, internet world, here I am!
Every night I'm saying a little non-denominational prayer for myself and all my fellow Columbia Publishing Course students: Dear Lord, please let us all get gainful employment. And if not that, please leave enormous cardboard boxes in convenient locations for us to claim and live in while we struggle to achieve our dreams. I just found a sublet until 9/15, but if I am still unemployed by then I have to go home to Virginia, the parents (whom I love, don't get me wrong), and my hometown, population 25,000. Not much opportunity there for breaking into the New York publishing industry....
However, some thoughts for those, like myself, who are unemployed:
$1 beers on Wednesday nights at The Lion's Head, on the UWS (yes, I will be there tomorrow)
stockpile fruit and water bottles from any cafeteria you may have access to
refill those water bottles from the tap until it borders on gross (at least 6 times, I find)
get really good at making coffee...for yourself and any potential employers
make friends, preferably in high(er) places or with large bank accounts, but real friends
Forever 21 and DSW....scour them regularly
READ. BOOKS. saves on cable, buying a tv, and helps the industry!!
Honestly, I can't imagine that anyone will actually ever read this, so I'm going to quit now. With a few inspirational Lonestar lyrics (from the country girl part of my soul):
my wish for you
is that this life becomes all that you want it to
i hope your dreams stay big
your worries stay small
that you never have to carry more than you can hold
and while you're out there getting where you're getting to
i hope you know somebody loves you
yeah this is my wish
